Shooting fireworks

New Year's Eve, eh! Many of you may be setting the world on fire. Some of you just want to document the action. For those of you shooting fireworks with a camera (see what I did there), here's a quick start guide (one of many).

Follow at least these steps.
  1. Start by using a Tripod
  2. Use a Remote Release
  3. Frame Your Shot
  4. Choose the best Focal Length
  5. Select the right Aperture
  6. Get your Shutter Speed Right
  7. Set your ISO
  8. Switch off your Flash
  9. Shoot in Manual Mode
  10. Experiment and Track Results

Read the entire post over at Digital Photography School.

Last but not least, remember to stay on safe distance from the action. In case the fireworks decides to explode first and then take off... Happy New Year!!

Mallard life

A Mallard mom and her ducklings were doing the usual...well, whatever they do other than eat and swim.

These photos were all shot with the almighty Tamron 150-600mm f/5-6.3. IT's fast enough for daylight shooting like here, but as soon as it gets a bit darker it just really doesn't perform any longer. The same goes for sharpness of the picture. Under certain circumstances the edges of the photo experience a notable drop in quality after 500mm focal length.

These Mallard photos, however, are ok right out to the very edges. The amount of light was sufficient on that day and with only water surrounding the object I wouldn't say there are any technical issues in the photos. At least due to lens.

A journey in photography

Welcome to my journey in photography. Even though we all know the saying about one picture and a thousand words, I still feel the need, from time to time, to expand my thoughts beyond the images.
